We got the bus to Puerto Vallarta, a small town on the coast of Mexico. It took maybe around 6 hours but the bus was very comfortable with properly reclining chairs, tvs, toilets and a complimentary lunch. We arrived in Peurto Vallarta late in the afternoon but the sun was out and it was still scorching. It was so much more hot and humid than Guadalajara had been. We checked into our hotel, Hotel Hortencia, a cute little orange hotel, very typically Mexican looking, then went out to explore. Peurto Vallarta is a very pretty little place with cobbled streets and lots of street stalls selling tacos and quasadillas. Our favourite was one on our street which did the best quasadillas ever. We got to watch the woman make them fresh for us, they were absolutely delicious! So much flavour. We took a walk down to the beach, it was buzzing with people. There seemed to be a lot of Mexican people here on their holidays. It was pretty but sea was really choppy and because of all the recent rain the water was very murky.
We dressed up that night for dinner and went to one of the restaurants by the beach. We saw the end of the sunset which was incredible. The sky was a really deep purple colour, kind of eery. We had some magheritas which came in huge glasses and had some really good mexican food. I ordered some chimichangas. After dinner we discovered there wasn´t that much nightlife so instead went back to our room where we had our very own tv. This was luxury for us as we have only ever been sleeping in dorms recently!
Every morning we had our breakfast at the same place, the Pancake House where we got to know some of the waiters, Orlando and Mario. They were very friendly. Not once did any of us actually manage to finish our breakfast, there was always way too much!
Sunbathing in Puerto Vallarta wasn´t easy. Even when the sun wasn´t out it was still so humid we were sweating constantly! We kept having to go in and out of the sea, as murky as it was! There was a lot of people selling stuff on the beach too and as there weren´t many tourists we had somebody trying to sell us something at least once every 20 seconds! It wasn´t too relaxing.
From our time in Puerto Vallarta we have realised not many young girls can come here. Every time we walked down a street, any street, we were greeted with wolf whistles, calls of ´beautiful girls´, offers of free massages and Mexican boyfriends. It would be great for people suffering from low self esteem but we just found it quite annoying.
It was nice to chill out in Peurto Vallarta for a few days. It really is a lovely little place with the most amazing sunsets....and quasadillas! We´re now about to board an overnight bus to Mexico City.
