Another beautiful day. Tried fishing using one of S's rods but without success. Took a short trip to the hamlet of Portland Road just to have a look. Extremely isolated - makes you wonder what drives people to live there. Gave fishing a second try but with no better luck. Really enjoyed Chili Beach especially the campsite. Filtered light & well protected from the almost constant wind on the beach. We are heading tomorrow to Mungkan Kandju NP.

Actually began packing up at 5am! Having a large start meant that we were all ready to hit the road by 8am. Again the roads were in great condition & the 280km or so was completed by early PM. The Portland Road road was a delightful drive thru the Iron Range NP. Getting to Chili Beach early was a good move as we got the LAST available campsite upon which we all set up camp. Did the bus tour of the Rio-Tinto Bauxite Mine in the morning. I got to see some very large machinery up close! The operation is both efficient & simple helped no doubt by bauxite being the easiest & cheapest mineral to mine - about $45 per tonne. Did some shopping & washing in the afternoon. An absolute beauty of a sunset sent us scurrying for cameras. Decided to leave Weipa tomorrow & head to Chilli Beach on the east coast. It's about 300km'...

CBL was much calmer in the morning & the beauty of the place was more apparent. S wet a line but no luck. Headed off to Weipa & only stopped at Bramwell Junction for refreshment. Continued on to Weipa via Batavia Downs. We are camped facing the beach with great views. Had dinner at the golf club - great food. Planning on a mine tour tomorrow. Highlight was the first 27 km out of CBL.

This was a difficult day to be sure! Day started badly with me taking a very long time to pack up & hit the road. The others were saying 'no worries' but standing around waiting ever so impatiently. Finally we left Loyalty Beach after a most enjoyable stay & headed to Vrilya Beach on the west side of the Cape. Crossing a log bridge was exciting but Vrilya Beach less so!
