hello all we arrived at narita airport at nine o clock. then wearily made our way onto japan rail for the fifty odd minute journey to ueno where we then caught another to our hostel which is in minowa a couple of stops away. had to wait a while to check in so we headed off for walk down from our hostel to a shrine and temple in asakusa the sensoji temple. got a bit of smoke for in our eyes which is supposed to be gtood health. cam back and chatted to two english guys who had been here for a while. we then retired to our quarters which had lots of slippers for us to slip on and very short doors. we have a room with en suite and rice paper walls etc. but just collapsed at three ish and did not wake till eightish which zella thought was the next morning! any way then talked a little and then went to sleep again on our rice pillows. next day wednesday we headed off to ueno park after our breakfast of banana pancakes zella keeps singing jack johnson. we headed off to the park famed for its cherrry blossom and its zoo. walked round the zoo and saw the usual collection of primates and assorted creatures. it is the oldest zoo in japan. we then went to akihabara which is the electric centre it was cool to see all the shops with weird manga and lots of computers phones etc all one one street with lots of neon. we popped in for a coffee and the bought more banana pancakes for tomorrow. to refuel us before we head for downtown tokyo to the ginza. tokyo towers and the imperial palace and more. this computer is doing my head in as it is all in jap and photos too big for the upload but we should put sone up for your perusal. just check back regular updates. kanichiwa or whatever it is
