South East Asia Adventure
We left the following morning for the seaside - Valparaiso. Before we caught our Bus we checked our mail and Nerys had found some accommodation for us.
Nice trip but smelly toilet which meant that I turned the aircon off in the vain attempt to keep the smell down. When we arrived we couldn't get in the place Nerys recommended and so we walked around looking for somewhere to stay. There were many helpful people around trying to help us. We found somewhere up overlooking town but I wasn't too comfortable there so we left our stuff and continued looking. We eventually found an excellent but slightly expensive place - The Brighton. Valparaiso is famous for its steep hills with its transport system of Ascensors up and down the hill. We managed to go up and down a few - clinging on tightly - health and safety would have a field day out here!!
Meeting Nerys turned out to be an interesting trip. We took a Ascensor down and walked to a Taxi rank - it was a collectivo where lots of people get in the same cab. We walked to the taxi queue and asked if it was going where we wanted to go - we were told yes. We climbed in and got half way up the road to be told he didn't go there. He didn't let us out and continued to drive on up the hill. After much discussion with all the other passengers he let us out at the top of the road ( a few miles away from where we had started) and told us to get a bus. The bus was driven by Sterling Moss (a reoccurring theme here) it took us around a road at the top of town and then back down to where we had got the collectivo. We gave up and ended up walking to pick up Nerys we were really late now, but thankfully she had waited for us. We found a cheap place to eat and toasted Nerys last night with Pisco Sours (They would make the hairs on your chest fall out!)
