After a fantastic whalewatching trip, we headed further north. 1000 km. We left at 2 am and had to be at Airlie beach the next morning. So we drove a lot but eventually ran out of gas. Consequently we slept at the gas station and filled our tank to continue the next morning. At the gas station we met some funny people, smoking funny stuff. But as good christians we didnt join them and went to bed at 1 am. The next morning we arrived at Airlie beach where we boarded a sailing boat for a two-day trip in the Whitsunday Islands. Calling it a sailing trip is actually a bit exaggerated because the engine was running most of the time. But the crew and the other passengers on the Habibi were cool and we had a great time. After a rolling night we went to Whitehaven beach, which was the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. They took the sand of that beach due to its fineness to produce the Hubble space telescope.
In the afternoon we went for a snorkel in the Great Barrier reef, which was marvelous. Fancy fish and colourful corals. We also did lots of jumps from the boat and I managed to do my first backflip. The next morning we went for another snorkel in the fresh water. That swim was the most beautiful that we had so far because of all the beautiful colours. We then sailed back, seeing some turtles and dolphins on our way to Airlie beach (this was the only time where we actually sailed, not using the enigne).
On the boat we had met with two German guys and we got along very well with them. So what we did was taking a shower on a campsite and we spent a night there.
The following day we drove further north and said goodbye to the two guys from Münster. We went to Dingo beach, an undiscovered beautiful area and Bowen, a little town with a beautiful lookout. We spent the night on a free campground and got up quite early the next morning.
On Thursday we went to the Wallaman falls, the biggest waterfall in Australia and did a hike there. This was very beautiful and i loved to be physically challenged after such a long time. In the afternoon we visited the Tyto wetlands and saw a herd of kangaroos, which was quite funny because the precedent day we enjoyed a kangaroo steak. Yummy :)
