Friday's fun-filled frolics!!
A fair amount has happened since the last entry.....where do I begin!?
I left Parati after a couple of days and headed south to Sao Paulo (a humungous city with a population of about 22 million). I only stayed in the city to watch an outdoor Oasis concert which was really awesome. Just our luck it started to rain really heavily as they came on stage and the rain only really stopped when the concert was over. Despite looking and feeling like drowned rats, we still had a great time. Lots of singing and dancing and sitting on Dave`s shoulders in order to see the stage (cheers Davide).
From Sao Paulo we made our way even further south to Curitiba -another large city (but a bit more attractive than Sao Paulo). Here we took what is meant to be the most beautiful train ride in South America. The train went from Curitiba through gorgeous valleys and forest to a quaint little town where we spent a few hours strolling around, eating, drinking, playing cards and watching the local boys jumping off a bridge into the river.
After Curitiba we decided it was time to get out of the big cities and head back to the coast and some islands. We left for Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) after a couple of days in Curitiba. Like Ilha Grande near Rio, Ilha do Mel is an island with no cars at all so it was really peaceful and laid back. We took a few walks around the island - to an old fort, a lighthouse and to a grotto which holds a legend that beautiful women once lived inside and cast spells on anyone who came near. Not the most interesting of legends but nevermind....
We left Honey Island after 3 days or so and took a bus to Puerto Iguacu in Argentina to see the famous Iguacu waterfalls (check out the pics). It was a really impressive sight! Whilst there I bumped into an old friend from our hostel in Rio which was a cool surprise. Ate many steaks once we crossed the border into Argentina (they are quite unbelievable - so huge and tender, and even better, so cheap!)
We are now in Uruguay (although we are leaving tonight to go back into Argentina and sample the delights of Buenos Aires - I hear it`s great for partying!) We went to Montevideo first in Uruguay and spent 3 days there. Lovely city. Then we came to Punta del Este on Uruguay`s coast. It`s kind of like a mini vegas here - large casinos, big flshing lights, expensive hotels and apartments etc... It`s pretty though - it has a lovely marina, nice beaches and the sunsets are really beautiful. It`s definitely a hotspot for the rich Uruguayans, so that`s why we can`t stay much longer!
Ok, I think that`s it....not long left in South America now, just a couple of weeks :-(
Will get some more photos up soon......
Hope everyone`s well back home. xxxx
