FARFRUMWURKEN
Today is our last day in Patong Beach so we decided that it was going to be one of relaxation. We grabbed a Tuk Tuk from the hotel to the center of Patong (200Baht) and from there headed the couple of blocks from the main shopping mall - Jungeceylon down to the beach.
We came across Miss Patricia on the beach who gave me an exceptional one-hour full-body massage (while Deborah watched I promise) for 400Baht or $12US. After being rubbed down with coconut oil, pressed and rubbed I felt tremendous.
Given our last day we decided to blow it out with an exceptional dinner so we headed to the Amari Hotel at the north end of Patong Beach. It was recommended to us by a close friend so with ordered another TukTuk (pronounced TookTook) and headed out for our 6:00 p.m. reservations.
Great hotel that had to be extensively renovated because of the Tsunami years ago, so this thirty year old hotel totally had a very contemporary vibe. The restaurant, La Gritta is on the very lowest level of this hillside hotel and we arrived just before sunset. Sometimes you just get amazed at the quality of service outside of North America. Everything at this place was top notch, from the five-star service, smiling courteous wait staff and the Italian food - OMG. The chef came out to talk to us at our table - Rosa had relocated from Rome and loved every minute of her new life in Patong. Moments later Pierre-Andre Pelletier - apparently Vice-President & Area General Manager for South Thailand operations showed up at our table to thank us for visiting and to welcome us his hotel - nice touch.
I can't begin to tell you how hot it is here. It's overwhelming. With temperatures of 36C and the very high humidity you relish any type of air-conditioning. We have our room set for 18C and it's like entering heaven every time you come through the door. I bought my obligatory baseball hat, and of course our Phuket magnet for our collection so I think we've got all we need before we get out of here tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
We've got Daj coming tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with his van to whisk us back to the airport, about one hour north so we'll be there way in advance of our flight requirements. We're looking forward to Singapore and the opportunity to get together with Ian & Wendy before they board their 50-day cruise through Cambodia, China, Korea, Japan and Alaska. See you guys tomorrow in the bar for drinks. Hope you have a safe flight too !
