FARFRUMWURKEN
Today was a very busy day. We awoke just after 5:30 a.m. - it was still dark outside but the sunrise was scheduled for about 6:00 a.m. I wanted to get some daybreak shots of the sun coming up over the beach so we were out on the large patio taking some early morning photographs before breakfast.
Breakfast was included in what I booked online so we were treated to a huge Asian breakfast buffet that had so many varieties, I couldn't believe it. We were scheduled to meet Daj at 09:30, so we had lots of time to do what we needed before he arrived. Today's deal was nine (9) hours for $1,800Baht or $54.00US - simply unbelievable for a nine-passenger van.
Our first call was likely the best and the most tense. I had heard that there was the opportunity to get into the same cage as tigers and I wanted to see what it was about. For a price, you could choose to get in the cage with babies, 1 year olds and 2 year olds. After a great amount of thought we decided that we would get in the cage with the big boys. We were given some very stringent instructions prior to getting in the cage with four (4) large two year olds. If you're wondering why the shots attached always show us at the back end, we were told specifically "no head touching".
I know what you're thinking already. They're drugged or sedated. They have NO teeth or claws. Let me tell be clear - you would be dead wrong. We had ten (10) minutes in the cage with the big boys. Two of them were in the tiger pool and they seemed to be either very playful or a little ****** off at each other. At one point during our session, these two large cats bolted out of the pool and ran after each other right between Deborah and another lady. The lady freaked. Her legs started to shake and she hyperventilated. It was an awesome experience, something that can never be repeated.
From there we started to visit some of the beaches here in Phuket. In no particular order, we visited Karon, Kata, Chalong, and Nai Ham. There are various lookouts along the coast that get you high up and you can see for miles. Today was 34C and clear as a bell with very high humidity, I can't tell you how hot it felt. My hat was melting. Having a driver like Daj is definitely the answer when visiting Phuket. You would be out of your mind if you thought you should rent a car or scooter and try to see what we did. It's just not worth the effort.
From the Big Buddah, to some of the largest temples in Thailand, we saw them all today. We stopped for lunch on the way up to the Big Buddah at a lookout restaurant, amazing food and rock bottom prices. It would be too long and boring for you to try to tell you all the things we were able to see and get accomplished in just one day - Phuket is an amazing part of Thailand.
We ended up going for special dinner tonight - I wanted to take my favourite girl out for a nice dinner and watch the sun go down so we headed down to Baan Rim Pa (recommended by the hotel) and it was fantastic. Again everyone, thanks for following us on this Asian adventure, it's greatly appreciated - hopefully you enjoy the tiger shots.
