Our band's first performance was amazing. They played 2 hymns and 3 anthems, The Belgian, Australian and British, and coordinated with the piper and buglers from the local fire brigade. A measure of the skill of our musicians, was the fact that they saw the Belgian National Anthem for the the first time this morning, learnt it in their first rehearsal today and sounded like pros for the service. Sophie and Lachlan laid a floral arrangement on behalf of the College. The service was very moving and went very smoothly with a great crowd. A testimony to all, was the number of observers who came to speak to Jan and the musicians as soon as the ceremony was completed to congratulate them on their fantastic, and polished performance. The past and present Mayors of Ieper came to congratulate the band and said that they were a credit to the College. This was an awesome way to finish our day.

Granny and Grandad Mitson Only one rehearsal for another country's anthem - La Brabanconne - and played professionally - well done indeed. Wow! And it is so enjoyable being able to share in your experiences promptly thanks to the internet. All exciting for we watchers back home!
