The final preparations entailed us selling some of the toys. So our time in Theewaterskloof was especially nostalgic with Heike and I having the last sail on the Hobie and for the kids their last ski on the boat. All the board sailing kit was thrown into the Hobie deal (lucky guy). We were blessed with perfect skiing and sailing weather and a dam to ourselves in paradise (I love this place).
Our travels started in the fairest Cape and we were reminded how privileged we have been living in this wonderful place. We stayed in the Mouille Point flat doing the tourist thing. Not having been to Llundudno for 30 years I was stunned how beautiful it was. I missed out on the West Coast trip to see Churchhaven, in my opinion the most stunning place on this planet. We of course played lots of golf with Hermanus taking first prize, just wish they would sort out the half way house. I still maintain that Cape Town in terms of character has got the best waterfront in the world, don't let the Americans tell you otherwise.
We also did the Gansbaai Shark diving tour. I had mixed feelings about this one as I was convinced that there is a relationship between chumming and shark attacks. Especially considering that both our kids are water rats. Although I still don't rule this out I believe that this rather large industry does more good in term of awareness than not. The Shark Lady expedition was extremely professional and a good day was enjoyed by all.
I could not help wondering if our travels would measure up to our home town. I can honestly say that with all our travels thus far nothing has compared. Sure if you take little bits and pieces and put them in one, there would be a contest. The closest competitors so far would be some of the Southern Californian Towns mostly beginning with San, but all unaffordable for us lesser mortals. So the benchmark has been set!
