Dylan's Birthday ! How strange to be spending it so far away from him ! What a blessing he has been for us ...and here is wishing him all the happiness and success for the future.
Today we arrived in Auckland, after a slow drive along the coast from Thames. On the radio we hear that there was a big earthquake in Auckland. Oops ! Luckily we missed it, and it looks as if there was no damage. There is a good reason why the houses here are made of wood ! on our drive there is the forever changing countryside with some interesting signs along the way....for example on the Pipiroa Country Shop "Purveyors of wickedly good country fare", the name on a campervan "Rum on Tap" and a sign in the middle of a field "Unborn children are part of the family".
We also had our first traffic incident with someone pulling out of a sidestreet in front of us. Was a very close shave. And once we had arrived in the Holiday Park in Auckland our Campervan had a flat tyre. Luckily not the worst place for it to happen. So...nearly managed without any car trouble.
Auckland is a city spread out around lots of bays and waterways...very interesting and picturesque. Luckily the morning rain abated and we could enjoy some amazing views of Auckland and surroundings from Mount Eden.
Sad to think that this is the last night in our campervan...has been such a fun time. Enjoyed a great meal out with the Allens tonight - mussels (really yummy) - seeing it is the last night together on our very short time together. The week has just flown & they have wonderful South Island to explore.
We still have 3 days in Auckland, before flying back to Melbourne. Whoever said that 3 weeks is more than enough to explore New Zealand ...I absolutely cannot agree. There is so much to see and do here ...we could happily have filled another 3 weeks. Looking forward to exploring Auckland in 3 action filled days.
