Just when we thought the scenery could not get more dramatic, we were left breathless on entering Lord of the Rings country, expecting Hobbits and Goblins to appear around every corner. Mirror lakes, gushing rivers and waterfalls and just massive peaks and carved valleys ....120kms of shear marvel on the road from TeAnau to Milford Sound. And how lucky are we...no rain. The drives takes a minimum of 2 hours, due to the winding road, steep inclines and single lane bridges. An area called The Chasm was especially interesting to see the smooth granite and curves cut into the granite by the gushing glacier waters. Sitting in the sun opposite Mitre Peak - highest peak in the Milford Sound - the bliss on being washed over me ...in the moment ....no-where to go....nothing to have to do ! That is what "gapping it" is all about. To top off the day we saw an avalanche on Pembrooke Peak - it first looked like a waterfall and then we realised it was snow rushing down the mountain. Really fortunate to have looked at the right moment. The photographs - thanks to Clint - will hopefully bring across some of the splendour. One just wants to bottle it ...to feed off the beauty at a later stage. Just just amazing. Off to visit the glowworms in the goblins' garden now ! Yours from Hobbit - Land Heike Ps After 4 days in the Campervan - Clint and I still have "stuff" to talk about, haven't killed each other yet and have been dining like kings (food is important !!!!) ....this is fun !!!! Definately realise how little one needs - very refreshing and liberating.
