Brrrrrrr hello all from a very snowy, cold Huntsville!
We had a good drive up from Toronto, just the one blizzard to contend with and have checked in to the Rainbow Inn which is a 'delightful' small motel on the edge of Huntsville. It has a great 70's vibe - with everything clearly original from the 70's! We booked a mountain view room with balcony, which turned out the be the just a hill and the balcony is just the walkway to the room! No one will be surprised to know I booked this!
However, it's actually ok now we have settled in, and is walking distance into Huntsville. The snow really belted down on Monday and soon obscured our 'mountain' view - it fell really heavily and we had a lovely snowy walk into town that evening. Huntsville is absolutely lovely, a real old town feel with lovely shops and very friendly bars. We had a good night out first night with a few wines and a traditional Canadian dinner of chicken wings and ribs - although it's very expensive to eat and drink out with dinner coming in at just under £100 although we did also try a few local Muskoka beers too.
Yesterday we drove out to the Algonquin National Park and walked to Ragged Falls which has a smal waterfall. We didn't see anyone and the snow was fresh so we had a long walk along the river and then cut back through the woods where the snow was so deep it was almost to my knees. It was stunning and although we saw lots of tracks again, we didn't see any wildlife :(
Last night we went to the local cinema which has been here for over 70 years and was very quaint, it only shows 2 films once per evening and last night was the Tuesday special at $7 each, we saw Jumanji which was pretty good.
When we came out the snow had started falling again, the high street was deserted and the Christmas lights were still up - it was like walking through a very romantic film set.
Today we went further into Algonquin and walked Peak Lake - the lakes here are all completely frozen and look stunning covered in snow. Finally we saw a bit of wildlife - an otter!
We are here for 2 more nights before driving back to Toronto on Friday for our flight home.
See you homeside!
