We're now about three hours into our first flight to Bangkok. I'm thinking that the combination of only having a couple of hours sleep last night and the long flight today is going to make for a very long day. We didn't finish packing and get into bed until around 2.00am. Then we left home at 6am this morning and arrived at Auckland Airport just before 9am. Once we checked in we went upstairs, had breakfast and spent some time with my family. Dyllan won a cute bear key ring from the arcade games. He gave it to me as a good luck charm and I have put it on my day bag. It's silver and has the word love written across it. So now he will travel through the UK and Europe with me too. Saying goodbye to all my family has been the hardest part so far. There were tears in their eyes as we walked through the gates. I hate goodbyes. When we went through customs they took our marmite off us. Apparently it's classed as a liquid, which we didn't realise. The guy told Paul that anything that can be spread on the outside of a plane is a liquid! Paul then made the mistake of telling him that I packed his bag when he asked if he had packed his own bag haha. A good start to the trip! I had bought it to take over to Laille months ago when marmite started going off the shelves after the Christchurch earthquake. I hope the grumpy customs guy enjoys his marmite toast. We've had our first meal on the plane already. I opted for the vegetarian option because I've never seen any meat on a plane that looks edible. We took some of our own snacks on the plane, but the plane food actually wasn't too bad. I've been surprised at how much they feed you and they're always coming up the aisle offering us drinks. Maybe that's why there seems to be an endless queue for the toilet. Our luggage is checked right through to Heathrow Airport, which saves us having to pick it up and take it somewhere else when we arrive in Vienna. We got our bags wrapped this morning too. My suitcase looks like a squished sandwich that's been wrapped up in lots of layers of glad wrap. I'm hoping there will be wifi when we get to Bangkok. We have a couple of hours free from when we land to when we board our next flight. Think the next several hours will consist of a lot of movies, napping, reading and drinking my last bottle of L&P.
