We arrived safely in Bangkok after our first long flight. We travelled 9,940km in just over twelve hours. As soon as you walk out of the airport you can feel the humidity. To the point where it's almost hard to breathe for your first couple of breaths. We walked down a flight of stairs and then were directed towards a bus, which we assumed would take us to International Arrivals (it did). On our flight we met a guy about our age from Dunedin. He was flying to Switzerland to meet his girlfriend. He had roughly the same wait as we did before our next flight so after finding a smokers room for Paul we all went to find some form of a fast food restaurant. Up on level four there was a BK, Subway and a couple of cafes. I think Paul was hoping for McDonalds, BK was a close second. The guys got asked if they wanted small or large burgers. Both said large. They were huge! Paul ordered a double cheeseburger with bacon. Even the drinks were giant. The meal looked like something you would expect to see at an American fast food outlet. I tried their strawberry Fanta, but it was really sweet. After we had something to eat we found our boarding gates and said goodbye to our new Kiwi friend. The Bangkok airport is really pretty inside. There's lots of beautiful paintings and unique displays of flowers in pink, purple and white. The lounges to wait in before you board all have soft pink seats. Anyone would think I'd have designed this airport, except for the fact that there were no pet shops. We were both shattered by the time we boarded Austrian Airlines. Knowing that we had another ten and a half hour flight to Vienna we decided to take a sleeping pill each.
I've just woken up and we now have roughly an hour until we land in Austria. Then a two hour wait before our last flight to London. Hopefully there is wifi in the airport in Vienna. I had no internet access at the Bangkok Airport, due to their being 'technical difficulties'. The guy at the information desk suggested there was one computer I could wait to use if I wanted. I couldn't be bothered waiting for that though so decided I would wait until we got to Vienna. Local time in Vienna is 4.27am. I've been looking out the window of the plane and it's been light for at least the past hour! I'm curious to see when it does get light in the morning and dark at night here. I guess I won't have to wait long now.
P.S. I watched The Vow on our flight. One of my new favorite movies. I know I wouldn't be complaining if I'd have a car accident, lost my memory and he told me Channing Tatum told me he was my husband! Definitely worth watching if you haven't seen it yet.
