At least the Heartbreak is now over!!!!
Well unless there is some sort of massive miracle in today's Gergia v Argentina game it very much looks as if the Rugby World Cup 2011 adventure is over for Scotland. I suppose at the end of the day we just didn't score enough tries and we didn't score any in our last 3 games. That doesn't make getting knocked out any easier to stomach. Especially when for a wee while against England last night it really did seem that the impossible could happen. For that small amount of time when we were 12-3 up I think most of us genuinely believed, wasn't to be though.
The atmosphere last night was incredible, I think that all the kiwi's in the stadium were supporting us as well and I dont know how it came across on the TV but it was bouncing at the game.
Got up to Auckland on Tuesday morning, travelling on an overnight bus from Wellington on Monday night, with that having been the day after the Argentina game, it was a bad idea. Rough, does not do justice to how I felt. Didn't say too much about Wellington in the last blog update because I was too tired to think. It was magic, the hostel was a great laugh and the banter with the Argies before and after the game was brilliant. When I finally get round to putting my photos up you will see the 2nd Mascherano.
Since getting to Auckland I have walked the fan trail from the City Centre to the stadium, twice, once yesterday on the day of the game which was a good laugh. Also took a walk out to the Harbour Bridge and back along the waterfront to see some of the most giant yachts you'll ever see. Raymond Luxury Yacht doesn't do them justice (thats a Monty Python joke, not sure that many will get that one). Met up with Ronnie and Dave most days and had a couple of pints and also ran into some of the Invercargill/Wellington crew.
Feel a bit gutted that the rugby is over now for us, will be harder to catch up with all these folk but I know that a few are hanging about for a bit in Auckland so will try get a beer with them. Poor English guy in my dorm washed his England rugby top yesterday only to find that it had a little red stain in the corner, shame. As I said to him though, there is already a massive red stain in the corner, it's called the rose.
Plans for the next few days are to chill out in Auckland, read books, read papers, relax. Although I'm thinking that with today's news that Dan Carter is out of the World Cup for the All Blacks, there may be a national day of mourning declared and everything will be closed.
Take care all.
