The day to have a cookery lesson would be the day that we both feel really ill. Oh yes, and the power was cut off for 8 hours which you know, was just fantastic. So we now had to do a cookery lesson with dodgy stomachs and no electricity.
The man running the class (Mac) came to pick us up and informed us that the other couple who were meant to be taking the class with us couldn't make it as they were ill (we knew how they felt). It ended up being really good though as we bascially got a one on one cookery class which would cost a lot to do back home.
We picked the dishes we wanted to do, put our aprons on and got to work.
We learnt to cook:
Coconut milk and Chicken soup
Green curry paste
Green Chicken curry
Spring rolls
Banana spring rolls
Paad Thai
Chicken with Cashew nuts
Papaya salad
Banana in Coconut milk
We also got given a cookery book at the end so we stand half a chance of remembering how to cook everything when we get back home (family and friends you're in for a treat!)
We literally done everything - we prepared all the fresh ingredients ourselves and learnt about each item as we went along. We also got our muscles working using the pestle and mortar. Apparently the Thai girls that cook the best get the most boyfriends!
Overall it was a great learning experience but we have a long way to go before we are accomplished chefs. Incase you are wondering, we cooked using gas outside so that solved the electricity issue.
Master chef watch out!
