We landed in Vegas and boy did we know it! There were slot machines at the airport - we were definately in Sin City! We got a shuttle bus to our hotel, we were staying at The Stratosphere which is at the North end of the Las Vegas Strip and has a tower over a 1000 feet high with viewing platform on top looking out all over the city. We really loved our hotel, it was by far the best room we'd stayed in and it was huge. The casino downstairs was also big and there was even a shopping section with some restaurants. As we were at one end of the strip, we got a bus into the main area most days/evenings but you could in theory stay at the hotel and be good for food, drinks and gambling. We did love our hotel but after visitng others such as Caesars Palace, Luxor and Bellagio, it did put our one in the shade a bit! Everything was just ten times bigger and better, and the attention to detail was amazing. All of the hotels are brilliant, especially the themed ones. We loved all of them.
We did a day trip to Grand Canyon, it had to be done, it's one of the wonder's of the world! We wanted to clock up as many as we could whilst we were away. It was a long day with and early start and a late finish, but it was a really really good day. On the way, we stopped at an Imax Theatre and watched a Grand Canyon film, which is apparently the most watched Imax film in the world. It shows the history of Grand Canyon, from when Indians lived there to European explorers finding various parts over the years. It was really interesting. We went to the South Rim of the canyons so was a further drive but what an amazing sight! It looked fake, not quite real. You just can't fathom how large it all is. And photo's, as always with these things, just can't do the views justice. We also came across a very friendly chipmonk and some deer. We were so tired at the end of the day, but it was worth it!
We really enjoyed Vegas, we have both said we would like to go back one day. Maybe when we have a bit more money to play with and have room in our luggage for heels! The weather was really warm and we were even able to sunbathe by the pool (not that we got a tan!) Next, we are off to Toronto, which will be a slight change of weather, it's meant to be much colder there than normal for this time of year so we'll have to wear lots of layers! It will be good to experience Canada now we've seen some of the US, we'll obviously keep you posted...
