This morning we had an early start, 4am to be precise, all for a 30 minute swim with whale sharks.
We had a three hour bus journey to Oslob and most of it was spent sleeping. When we got to Oslob, we purchased our tickets and headed to grab our snorkelling gear.
Our first task was to pile in to a boat for the long 50m boat journey. We had paid £15 for a boat to take us 50m off the coast!! It's ok though, they waited for us so that they could bring us back. We didn't want to be abandoned at see!
Anyway, as the boat took us out we went over a couple of whale sharks and they were huge!!! Unbelievable!
We jumped in and went for a swim. The whole experience was just incredible. Pretty hard to sum it up. At one point there were three whale sharks around us, including one that was 10m long........ and these were just the babies!
We dived down and swam under the beasts. During the half an hour swim, a local came down and took pictures and videos of the whole thing.
When our time was up we got back on the boat and headed back to land. We were all buzzing! In fact, we were buzzing so much that somehow we ended up drinking tequila shots and cocktails at about half 10 in the morning. We grabbed some lunch and then headed to get a bus back to Cebu.
Whilst enjoying our drinks and lunch we were approached by some street sellers, "Hammock? Machete?" Dan being Dan, he asked the question "How much for the machete?" The guy told us that it was 1500 pesos (£22/23). Dan offered him 200 pesos (£3). This was a sarcastic, 'go away because we aren't interested' offer. The guy gradually started decreasing his price until about 20/30 minutes later he said, "ok, 200". It was too late. Dan had no choice but to purchase a machete. Over lunch the conversation went down the route of what we could do with a machete but we came to no conclusion.
A couple of beers on the bus and we were in a pretty good mood. Once off the bus and back in Cebu, Dan realised that he had left the machete on the bus. Who knows where it will end up? We are now at the dock at Cebu, waiting for a boat to Bohol.
We spent the day travelling a lot but it was well worth it. An experience I'd definitely do again. Hope everyone is good. Josh x
