Last Thursday we headed off to Turgutreis (almost impossible to pronounce I find, sort of rhymes with Pergatories but not quite). The was a sea captain called Turgut and Reis means captain. This town is on the Bodrum peninsular and about 3 hours cruising from Didim. It used to be a chain of tiny fishing villages but now they are pretty much all joined up. We have a reciprocal week here as the marina is part of the Didim D-Marin group. It is quite different to Didim. There is a rumpity old town area then quite nice holiday apartments and hotels to the north and south along the water front - couldn't really call any of it a beach. The Saturday market was very good in the old town centre.
I had my birthday here - thank you for all the kind wishes via various media comms. Peter bought me a ring that I had seen in an estate jewellery shop back in Brisbane. Some returning friends are going to bring it back for me. He made a card on the computer that took the whole trip to Turgutreis! Lots of cursing I imagine.
We rode our bikes all around north and south on very good bike tracks. Friends from Didim drove down on Sunday and we all went to lunch up the hill with lovely views of Greek Islands. Unfortunately it was not the best day for views. It is a bit sobering to remember how close these two countries are when you remember that they don't get on very well!
Today is our last day here - back to Didim for a few reasons and to wait out the last bit of winter weather we hope! It has been getting noticeably warmer.

Neil Looks like you are having a great time. I'm jealous.
Gary Broomham Happy Belated Birthday Deb. I wasn't aware. What a stunning ring - love it! He did very well. The place looks really interesting with great views. Especially liking the produce in the markets. Could wander around it for hours. Wowzers.
