What a month! After leaving Montenegro we flew from Corfu to London. Entre Nous continued on in the D Marin Gouvia Marina with Kiki and Cora who moved on to a nearby anchorage after a few days. We overnighted in London, then continued on to Denver then Dallas. We stayed with an old work associate of Peters' and his wife there for a day. They showed us the "x marks the spot" where JFK was shot. We saw the grassy knoll and the book repository from where the shot was allegedly fired.
Next was back to Denver for my niece's wedding. It was a lovely evening with a good representation from our family considering we are not mostly in America. The ceremony was uniquely designed by themselves but held in a lovely old chapel. It was nice to catch up with my other nieces and nephews who we see only too seldom. They are all well and seem to be doing well with their lives across a big range of jobs and professions. My sister from Santa Fe was there too so that was good.
Next we flew back to London and visited and stayed with my stepmother (in Wimbledon) who is now 94. She is very fit and well, going up and down her steep English stairs multiple times a day! During this 7 days we went up to London twice. Once to see about joining the RAF Club (which Peter can do through the RAAF), once to vote at Australia House in the referendum, and to see the Courtauld Gallery where there is the biggest collection of Impressionist paintings in England. This came to an abrupt end when there was a commotion and we were all shooed out - someone had "fallen" from the top floor to the ground and died. After milling around for a bit, it was clearly not reopening so we went home. The weather was lovely and clear with only one or two spots of rain. During this time we took and overnight trip up to Leek in the Stoke area to visit with my stepsister Sue and her husband Roger. We had a lovely evening with them and drinks at their "local".
Next we flew to Knock, Ireland, to stay with old sailing friends, Howard and Sue, who we originally met in Trinidad. We subsequently sailed around the US and British Virgin Islands with them and also stayed on their river boat in the Meuse River in France. They now have re invented themselves as small holders in Ireland! They are halfway through renovating a 200 year old farm house and various outbuildings. We had a lot of fun and laughs catching up and experiencing Irish country life with a couple of side trips to Westport and Galway as well as collecting new pigs, feeding hens and ducks etc. Peter helped re do some very messed up wiring to the home barn.
Next We flew back to London for a few days to re pack and head off to Miami for the second wedding! We had to fly via Newark which was a horrible experience - 4 flights in and only 2 counters open at immigration!!! They finally opened another 4 only to close one and this mess went on for 3 hours causing us to miss our Miami connection. Instead of arriving at 6pm we got in at 11.45, very tired. Luckily we had the next day to recover. The wedding of Sarah and Eric was very formal but very successful. We had dinner with them the next night with Sara's parents Tom and Lisa. Tom being a work associate of Peter's of long standing.
The trip back to the boat was uneventful but tiring with 4 flights in one 24 hour period. We arrived back to find that poor Cora had been quite unwell on and off the whole time we were away to the point where they had been to hospitals and doctors with no real results or confidence in the process and language difficulties. They flew to Spain the very next morning to try and sort it all out. It seems to have been a stomach thing dating back to the oyster and mussel bar in Montenegro but that could be a coincidence. At least they feel safe and confident back home. Peter and I took Entre Nous to Sarande, Albania (where we basically slept for 2 days) as we had to get out of the Schengen region quick smart. We need to have a week at least up our sleeves for getting to Sicily where we will leave the boat for the northern winter and return home. We worked our way up the coast, stopping briefly in Durres for Duty Free fuel (1.37 euro per litre) and will spend November in Montenegro. We are now in Portonovi Marina again all safely tied up for some weather.
So after 16 flights and 8 countries (not counting stop overs) in just under 30 days I think we have finally stopped and recovered. Phew.
I don't think I've forgotten anything......
