(Sorry this post has taken so long - the blog site was down for a while, then we started travelling around and I got out sorts with it)
Montenegro started off really well and is continuing so. We spent our first two days in Portonovi Marina. As we still have a current contract with the Didim D Marin marina we are entiltled to 7 free nights in each of their 11 marinas in Europe. There we met a New Zealand couple from Auckland who, with their 4 other New Zealand friends who arrived the next day, we had dinner with in an excellent restaurant in the beautiful setting of an old mill. I had forgotten what a "family" NZ was, finding that I had many friends, places and experiences in common with them all. There are lots of Australians and NZers here - it's quite remarkable. We are all doing the "Schengen Shuffle" staying out of the Schengen countries for 90 days in every 180. 4 boats from the Didm marina are here too so there is no shortage of socialising. One night in Uvala Solil we invited them all aboard for a BBQ mini reunion - lots of fun. That night as everyone staggered back to their boats by various dinghies the was a huge thunderstorm. Catabella dragged their anchor at midnight and Sunday got flooded from an open hatch. The next night was our turn to drag at midnight in another storm. We all got soaking wet re anchoring, but all was well. The thunder, rain and lightning immediately stopped and the beautiful full blue moon was out. By that time we were too fed up to really bother with it and went back to bed!
Peter had a sore throat and headache for a week so I found a medical centre in Tivat where we went. Straight in, no wait, no appointment and 40 eruo later we had some antibiotics and a very comprehensive check over. Super impressed. What we saw of Tivat was very nice so we must get back there. Everything is very close by here. We drive really slowly from place to place in order to have time to make water!
Morinjski Zeliv is where the old mill restaurant is and we stayed here for 4 days enjoying the water along with 4 other Australian catamarans and one mono. And these are ones we hadn't even met - we have now. Some high winds had us all chasing off to more sheltered bays.
This time of year seems a bit unsettled - a couple of days of high wind or storms then lovely lovely days for exploring and swimming.
So far we've spent time in Tivat, a very nice marina, although we anchored out, surrounded by very smart expensive shops and restaurants. Also time in Kotor, a place I had no idea about till now. A terrific old walled city with winding streets opening up into many squares where we got happily lost for an afternoon. I think it is much like Dubrovnik will be like. The architecture a bit gothic and Dracula-ish. The weather is very settled now so we can be anywhere without worrying about shelter, but I'm sure it will change back at some point, the steep surrounding mountains just about guarantee that.
We spent about 5 days on the "outside" of the fjords at Lustica Bay. This is a purpose built marina and associated town for tourists but somehow has some charm. There is a lovely wooden walkway elevated over volcanic rocks and pebbly bays around to a little cove with a somewhat noisy bar at it. the waterfront at the marina is pretty smart with matching prices. Back "inside" we caught up with Sunday and Catabella again who recommended an oyster and mussel bar at Risan Bay. I minded the boat (don't eat shellfish) while the others all went ashore and gorged.
Peter had his birthday last week - a perfect day for him: Waffles for breakfast, Pizza with Catabella and Sunday ashore then Cora's amazing meat pies and her baked cheese cake for dinner. A happy chappie!
Today we leave lovely Montenegro for Corfu (22 hours) where we fly to and from the States for two weddings and a trip to Ireland to visit old sailing friends on their farm there. Kiki and Cora will stay with Entre Nous for the duration then all head back to Montenegro for November. We're a bit sorry to be leaving as the weather is perfect right now and probably through October. Mid to high 20's with the odd rain storm to mix things up and clean the boat.
