Once we arrived at the port in Koh Phi Phi, we went into a travel agents and booked 4 nights accomodation at Bamboo Moutain View. As no cars or mopeds are on this Isl;and, a guy with a trailer came and got our bags and pulled them 10/15 mins to where we were staying!! It is a bit of a trek there, we have to walk past loads of bungalows where the thai ppl live, and as you could probably imagine, it isnt the cleanist of places and it smells pretty bad to! Once past there we have to walk up a steep hill then we get to our resort. It is all up the mountain and really nice, has a pool etc. Our bungalow is about 20m up some very steep steps and along planks of wood!! The bungalow is basic but fine.
Koh Phi Phi is a very small island, with bars, restuarants, and little shops everywhere. The beach here is lovely. It has recovered really well from the tsunami, although it is still obvious in places the devastation it caused. We both jumped in the pool once we got to our accomodation as it was so so hot. We must be sweating about 10 litres a day each here (dnt worry mums, we r drinking lots of water!!!). We then showered and headed into the main area in the centre of the island. We had pizza for dinner and then a few drinks at this beatiful restuarant right on the sea front, where all the long tail boats are etc, so it was a really nice evening. Also got our best pics yet of an amazing sunset (hopefully the pics will be uploaded). We managed to get up and leave restuarant without paying for our beers 520 baht, but my little conscience took over from me lol and i made Mike go back and pay as thought with our luck we wud prob end up in a thai prison, haha.
The next day we got up and spent a good 2 hours walking round the island, also try to find the Tsunami War Memorial, which according to the map we were right on it but could seem to find anything apart from aload of rubble where they are rebuilding hotels etc and these were right on the beach where the tsunami hit. We then went onto the beach for a bit but it was just so hot you cant stay on it for long. We had lunch in a nice little place and mike has a Thai Green Curry PIZZA!! Sounds sick, but was really nice, even Mike liked broccoli and califlouer on his pizza (so he has no excuse for ur roast dinners now Gill!!). We then walked around looking at the market stalls and randomly bumped into Asyliene, Emma and Joony who we spent a few days in Koh Phangan with so we sat and had a drink with them, and even more randomly Ashley and Megan (also from Koh Phangan) appered!! They were obnly visiting phi phi for the day so they got the boat back and me and mike headed back to our pool for a bit, then we had a quick sleep and made the very steep and sweaty walk to view point where yopu can see the whole island. It was hardcore and good toning for the bums and legs, once we made the top there was loads of ppl there all watching the sunset. We took some pics and you will see that the tsunami came in from the left side of the beach and washed straight across the island. We then went for drinks and dinner and got an earlish night as we were up early for a boat trip the next day.
19th April 2009
We had to meet at 8.30am for the trip which turned out to be one of our best days since travelling. We had quite a large boat and basically went round to smaller islans off of Phi Phi. We spent the day with 2 ozzy guys and girls who were really nice. Our first stop was Maya Bay (where The Beach was filmed), where the boat stopped about 100m from the beach, so me and mike jumped in a kayak and went onto the beach. The waters are amazing around here, really clear. We also snorkelled here for a bit, although im not so good at that! I somewhere just let go of my snorkel and googles and mike had to dive down pretty deep to catch them quick as we would of had to pay 20 quid or so if i had lost them!! After then jumping off the top of the boat a few times we moved onto seeing Pi-Leh Bay and then we stopped at Bamboo Island, the beach here was the best I had seen, the water was clear for so far and it was so warm, we all swam to the beach and it was so nice, there were loads of tropical fish swimming all around us. One of the thai guys pushed me off the boat when there was a horrible water snake swimming right infront of me!! After here, we then stopped at Shark Bay, luckily or not, there werent any sharks but the bopys found it funny to try and scare us someway! We then went to Monkey Beach which use to be full of wilod little monkeys but we could see any at all, me and mike also attempted to kayak into some caves but the waters started gettin rough so we decided against that! We then headed back to phi phi, and were all kinackered from swimming so much and the sun. Was such a good day tho.
We all went back for a sleep and met later on for a meal and lots of drinks in the end! After the meal we went to the regga bar which has a boxing ring in and you get a free bucket if you fight someone. There were some big guys going for it, just full on swinging punches etc but i actuall quite enjoyed it and so did Mike. Then 2 girls got up there, my age, one very pretty blonde, not what u would expect, but it turned out she was a black belt in karate and end ed up kicking the crap put this french girl who gave up after round 1 ! We had a few Samsong buckets in here and Mike was on form!! But Pete (one of the ozzy guys) is the closest match to Mike I have found in 2 and a half yrs!! Just as crazy and possibly camp at times lol, they got on really well and we had such a good night. We ended up on the beach until about half just dancing and gettin more drunk. We somehow made it home and up all our steps safely and both fell asleep pretty quick. We are both feeling the effects today tho.............hence why we have been sat in a cool internet cafe drinking alot of water!!
Back to Phuket 2moro for a night before we fly to kuala Lumpar. I cant believe our time in Thailand is nearly over, it took us a while to get in the swing of things here but we have already met some really nice ppl and done so much already, so are sad to go but we look forward to the next adventure .............................
