Hey !!
So we arrived in Adelaide! Our flight was really good, had 2 seats next to the window, there were loads of movies, programmes etc to watch. The staff were all over 50 which was strange tho, lol! The flight was only 6 hours and we flew at 10.30pm, so our meal was served up pretty quick, hen i took advantage of the wine and had 2 bottles (small bottles) while watching Marley and Me, but I missed the end of it as I then fell asleep for a good 4 hrs! Think i may drink wine on the plane more often if it sends me to sleep that easily! After we had landed, we had to sit on the plane for a while whilst people came on completely covered up checking for swine flu!! They removed one guy from the plane and made him wear a mask. When we got off we were all screened again, its mad! We arrived slightly early and got through immigration and baggage pretty quick, we had some guy ask us a few questions about where we were staying, how much money did we have etc but it was all fine.
We then headed for car rentals, and ended up going with Thrifty. We got a banana yellow (Tina the Tart) hyandi getz, for 4 days to drive the great ocean road and drop off in Melbourne! It cost us 278 dollars so about 135 quid, not bad, it costs 20 quid to fill the tank up.
We were both very tired from the flight and so decided to spend that day and our first night in Adelaide. We drove around for a while to get our bearings of the city etc, then manage to find Travellers Inn (recommened!) just outside the city. It was a good hostel, we were in a 4 bed dorm but only me and mike in there. We had a nap for an hour or 2, the beds were really comfy and we had quilts which were amazing!! We got up and showered, then drove to the Botanic gardens, its a massive area with lots of grassy areas and big greenhouses with different stuff in, not really mine and mikes cup of tea but it was good to go there. After this we went to the National Wine Centre, we were too late to have tasters but we learnt the history of wine (not)!
We then headed back to our hostel for dinner, we bought in and had fish finger sandwiches and beans, it was AMAZING!! We then caught an early night as were both shattered and started our drive the next morning.
Although we were only in Adelaide for a day we both thought it was really nice. Its very small and quite an old looking city but it had a good atmosphere about it and lots of good cafes and parks etc.
Our next stop...Great Ocean Road......
