One of my favorite questions to be asked.... because after about two weeks I realized just about everyone knows where Texas is. So I just reply, "I'm from Texas!" About 90% of the time they know where that is. It's a pretty cool thing because if you ask any Texan we speak as if Texas is our own country. Apparently, it could be haha.
The second thing that is brought up sometimes with this question is... "US or Canada?" I never really knew how close the Canadian accent is to the American accent. Not sure why I didn't realize it before. But I guess I'm just too far south to know enough Canadians. It doesn't bother me if someone assumes I'm Canadian by my first sentence. But once I drop a yall its pretty safe to say where it comes from.
Now onto the "yall" yes I say it in almost every sentence. It gets pointed out quite a bit. I never knew how much I actually said it until coming here and having it pointed out. I definitely still use it quite a bit. But, I catch myself saying it much more often now than I ever did before.
I enjoy picking up on new Aussie slang. So G'day, thats totally not a thing. The majority of Australians never use it. For the fun words to hear:
heaps-lots
heaps good-very good
far out-awesome
reckon-figure, think
zed-how they say z
capsicum-a pepper
tomato sauce-ketchup, they are not the same
biscuit- a cookie
fairy floss-cotton candy
jumper-jacket, hoodie
hungry jacks-burger king
Macca's-mc Donalds
pokies-gaming, gambling
rubbish-trash
servo-service/gas station
So just a few words the Aussie Way.
