Our journey to Singapore, also our last journey as a group, was a 4 hour ride on a coach bus. We took off bright and early. When we were nearing immigration lines from Malaysia into Singapore, Willie started to prep us on the process. He was very serious and wanted to make sure we understood how strict the Singapore crossing really is. We could all tell he was nervous. Basically Singapore has a lot of rules and is a lot more modern than most of SE Asia. For example, gum chewing isn't allowed, it's really expensive to drive a car, and jay walking will land you a $50 ticket. Also, not that I smoke, but you can't bring cigarettes from another country into Malaysia.
Luckily all of us passed the boarder inspection just fine, even though it was actually pretty intimidating. We walked from the bus station to our hotel, and when we got there, our rooms weren't ready so we went to lunch straight away. I had only the afternoon and part of the night in Singapore so I was wanting to get moving really quickly. When lunch was finished, others wanted to go back to the hotel to get settled but given my short amount of time, Rachel and I took off to find the hop on hop off bus to get some sight seeing done before dinner. If you haven't gathered by now from the rest of my posts, Rachel and I aren't very good at finding things. We've gotten lost multiple times, and this was no exception. Eventually we found the bus, I relaxed a bit (I'm sure Rachel was happy I did) and we took off. On our third stop, we ran into the other group who had gone back to the hotel and they joined our bus. We rode the loop of that tour, then switched to a different bus and rode that route as well. Basically Singapore has a lot of shopping and a really architecturally cool downtown area. I was able to see all the sites in less than 4 hours!
Per usual, we were running late to get back in time for dinner, so we rushed to get ready, I finalized my packing, and met everyone downstairs. Willie gave us a goodbye speech and it started to dawn on me how sad I was going to be when leaving that evening. These people had become my family and this experience had changed my life. After Willie's speech, we took off for drinks at Marina Bay hotel. This hotel is extremely cool (See photos). It's a really tall hotel with three towers, on top of which sits a boat shaped structure that has a rooftop bar and infinity pool. Whoah. This is where I spent my final hours. At 10, it was time to head to the airport for my 1am flight to Seoul, South Korea. My goodbyes were so sad. I cried and hugged each person individually, making them promise to keep in touch, and took off to grab my bags at the hotel then went to the airport.
I loved Singapore in the short amount of time I spent there. I could imagine myself living there and really enjoying it. If you ever get the chance to go, you should!
