Emmett's Adventures
Alright Folks,
I will try and make this one shot and sweet. After we left Boquette we headed for the coast. Boquette has in the mountains and was nice and cool. The coffee tour was cool and although I don't drink the stuff i can now saw that I prefer a Light Roast Arabica from the highlands of Panama!
We took two buses, a boat and a taxi to get to Bocas. It is a very Carribean Island. Many people spoke English, not that i could understand the accent anyway. More Creole than English. When we were there i went for a couple of dives. The weather looked liked it did not want me to go but we went anyway. I saw some lobster, a Morie Eel (don't know how to spell it), and loads of really cool coral. Not many large fish, in fact I did not see many fisah at all. The colour were so bright on the coral. I only wished I had a camera to some you.
Although I did not see many fish it did wonders for my confidence and at the moment i just need to build up my experience. I will be diving again in Honderas which is meant to have the second largest reef in the world.
We signed up for turtle watching on our last night. We spent 6 hours on a beach in the dark being eaten by sand flys and mozzies and saw zip. It is the main season for the leatherbacks to lay their eggs on the beach. We did see some tracks and they were huge. They looked more like tractor marks than anything a turltle would leave. They were a good 5 feet apart. Come 2 am i just wanted my bed and called it a night.
Bocas was a very chilled out place and the food was really good. I had a great Thai/Carribean dish. I spent most of the time walking around shoeless, gotta go with the vibe man!
From Bocas we left Panama and crossed the boader on a very small bridge that left us contending with huge trucks to get across. There is only room for one truck and when it comes across you have to hussle to a passing point.
Costa Rica so far is just as chilled. We spent a few days on the Carribean side in a place called Puerto Viejo. Again it has a very Carribean feel to it, and again the food was amazing. The whole town had a certain frangrance to it - very Carribean! It was nice just to chill out in a hammock and read a couple of books.
It is weird as that is all we did on the ferry to manaus but throw in a bit of sun, some room, and decent food and it is sooo much nicer.
I am now in San Jose to join up with some others for the next 4 weeks.
Until next time, E
