So after quickly deciding to leave phong nha and make our way to Hanoi we arrived after our 12 hours overnight bus journey! Same as always getting awoken at 7am by the bus man shouting we have arrived and getting off the bus straight away being pestered about taxis and hotels by about 15 different people at once not nice when all we want to do is go back to sleep!
We spent 3 days in Hanoi however there isn't that much to say as our time quickly came to an end, and it's just another city with not too much to do! A lot lot quieter than Saigon, so easier to get across the road for once!!
We arrived at our hotel which was very nice and we had a big buffet breakfast every morning so we were very happy!
On the first day we slept for most of it being so tired after our journey, went out to explore and then we were stuck in due to a massive storm!! Never seen one so big, we were both scared, well I was very! (Dom maybe not so much) after the storm though we saw the most amazing rainbow ever!! due to this storm we also had a power cut for a couple hours in our hotel but it also continued more in the evening along the streets, when going out later every so often the street lights would turn off leaving you in darkness! Going out in daylight the next day we realised even though the storm was scary it was a lot worse that we realised, massive trees had fallen down even pulling up the concrete and branches blown all other the street along with later finding that 3 people actually died!!
This day, after the storm we went for a walk around the well known lake in the city which has a famous story or myth to go behind it, then went and rested for the day with there being more storms but not as bad, going out for dinner in the evening not finding anywhere so ended up at a restaurant where you sit on the side off the road, then the rain started again and we were stuck lost trying to find our way home!
The following day we walked around the old quarter taking note of it all more and going in the shops, continuing to walk until we realised we had walked quite far!! Enjoying it all a lot though, the buildings are all so interesting looking, similar to in hoi an a yellow kinda colour with an old look to them giving them character! The rest of our time here was spent booking one of our final trips in Vietnam :(( to Halong bay which we had both been looking forward to for so long!!!!
So early next morning we were up and ready for our two day tour to Halong bay!
