Rome! The wonderful and spectacular city that is! I cannot rave enough about this incredible place. Beautiful, vibrant, passionate and interesting. I've been back here twice in 6months and can say without a doubt that I'll be back again.
Where to begin? The Pantheon, Vatican, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, it's endless! All this culture and history topped with a glass of red and some apertivo at the end of the day is just the Italian standard. Expect your jaw to hurt walking around this city. It's marvellous.
Pantheon. Probably my favourite spot in Rome. This modest and understated relic sits in the heart of Rome and is always a guaranteed jaw dropper. Surrounded by some of the finest Italian restaurants, this area is pricey but with a view that's well worth it.
Colosseum. Wondering around the streets of Rome and strolling past the Colosseum, it's hard to believe that it is more than 2000 years old. It's fascinating how much history is packed into this unbelievably ancient building and incredible to think that it all happened in the confines of a construction now surrounded by fast cars and scooters. The Roman Forum is not to be missed either, even if it is just for a quick walk round to experience the architecture and history of the centre of the ancient Roman Empire.
Trevi Fountain. Beautiful! On our last night in Rome, we laid in front of the fountain watching the stars and listening to the sound of water dropping.Granted we were slightly intoxicated and thought that this gesture would be rather romantic but it was still breath taking anyway!
Vatican City. Jaw Dropping. If you think it's spectacular from the outside, get yourself inside St Peter's Basillica and you will be even more amazed.
Trastevere. A fantastic local little hideaway, ideal if you want to escape the touristry of Rome. Full of bars, restaurants and tiny intertwining alleyways, Trastevere is the epitome of Italy.
Piazza Navona. Wonderful and arty and boasts some wonderful monuments that you can't go without seeing! The Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of Four Rivers) is definitely a must see. Campo de' Fiori is just a 5 minute walk away and is a haven for restaurants and bars with a good selection of street entertainment and most have free wi-fi which is always a plus point!
Clubs. I only hit 2 clubs when I was here (White Club & Art Café) but I was pretty impressed with both. Expensive but they certainly put on a show! Dancers, huge artwork and sculptures, glitter bombs and some of the best and most beautiful bar men in the world. Just a few of the perks to clubbing in Rome. Drinks range from about €15-20 so be prepared to either spend a fortune or be sober. You'll find that Italy's smoking culture is quite evident so a lot of Italians don't drink too much anyway. In a lot of instances, if you want to get into a club you either have to know someone on the inside or be prepared to wait for a long time and boys get friendly with girls! Roman men like their women so unless you're bringing some hot totty to the table, you're not getting in!
Fregenae. If you fancy a bit of beach side action whilst in Rome, head to Fregenae. Only 30minutes away by train lies this stunning beach that boasts Italy's gorgeous white sands and clear waters. And it has those beach beds which always make any beach look elegant and appealing! Watch out for the ridiculous amount of Italian men in speedos though…
What I love about Rome is its vitality and the brazen approach of its inhabitants. The beeping, the shouting, the energy. It all just makes the city feel as if it's a living organism. Also, be warned - like many countries outside the confines of Britain, queuing doesn't exist in Rome! If you're like me, a proud, British que-er, drop that mentality straight away and embrace the naughtiness of pushing and shoving your way to the front!
Brimming with passion, life and vivacity, Rome is a city that you have to experience at least once in your lifetime. Architecture and history is everywhere you go. Stumbling across thousand year old monuments everywhere you go just adds to the beauty Rome offers making it easy for you to get totally lost in Rome's charm.
