So the Friday night in Napier was actually quite fun (in a weird time travelling way). There was an aeroplane display and then later a concert with a big band doing old Glen Miller type songs and everyone was up in their respective outfits dancing and bopping about. Was a bit surreal like been transported back to the war days or something and I was staring to worry about the sanity of some of the people there, we took loads of photos so you can check them out for yourselves, but I think many of them might have actually believed it was the 1920's. And you had to feel for some the kids, I mean can you imagine the embarrassment of having to dress up and pretend to live in the past with your parents, bless, but most of them seemed happy enough so good on them.
The Saturday was more of the same (I mean theres only so many ways to celebrate Art Deco and the 1920's right?!). So there was a big parade with old cars and singing and dancing and generally more weirdos dressing up ha ha. I'm kidding it was good fun actually and we almost (i say almost as in walked in a shop then walked out again) bought something to wear to get in the spirit of it. So in conclusion Napier was lovely and sweet, even though by the end of it it was all wearing a bit thin (if I heard that Titanic song one more time?!). I can imagine you and Ian liking it Mum but I think even you might have thought some of them were a bit weird.
Whilst waiting for the bus we were doing anything and everything possible to kill time so ended up stumbling accross this little place called Opossum World. What a weird sick little thing this was. It was basically a shop which sold everything you could ever imagine made out of possum skin from hats to jumpers and huge cuddly (?!) toys, but there was also like a little museum (in the loosest sense of the word) round the back which tried to teach you about possums but was basically just a walk through some scary plastic woods filled with stuffed possums whose eyes lit up and seemed to sing crazy songs. Was very surreal.
Saturday afternoon we got the bus to Wellington. The bus ride was ok actually considering it was 5 hours (as Kat said we're very good at wasting time now). We went out looking like tramps just for a few beers to check the place out then when all the people starting appearing in their fancy pants we realised it was Saturday night! Thats the problem with travelling you have no real concept of time or days its just one big haze. So we went got changed into something clean and not smelly put a bit of lipgloss on and hit the town (this counts as getting dressed up now for us). We were shattered though so didn't put in a good show I'm afraid and was back in bed by 1:30.
On Sunday we wandered around Wellington in the glorious sunshine. Vistited the Empire Theatre where the Lord of the Rings world premiere took place and they show Lord of the Rings films every day. We basically just went to the toilet but it was the poshest toilet i have ever been to! We went up the cable car thing (see the photo above) and looked at the view. Watched them filming some stupid rugby sketch show (a bit like Soccor AM we''re guessing) and got duped into going to the Planetarium. This was a moment of weakness on our parts don't know what we were thinking. We got to wander round the building look at the sun through a telescope (just a bright light!) and then snook out so we didn't look too rude at how bored we were! We wandered around a bit more (see a theme occurring) and checked out the harbour, which was lovely. Last night had a Dominoes $7 pizza (cheers Chrissie for that, you don't know what your missing) and went to the cinema.
Tomorrow we have a flight to Christchurch then picking up our hire car (wit woo) and touring the South Island.
