On our second day in Dunedin we drove out to Otago an area famous for its nature and wildlife. We spent most of the day at a penguin sanctuary and it was awesome! The place was based on a private beach on some farmers land and there were groups of yellow-eyed penguins (apparently the rarest in the world) which lived there naturally. The sanctuary had built a serious of hides and tunnels and pathways to try and allow you to get as close as possible to the wildlife without actually endangering or scaring them. We saw a load of little penguins and while we were there a big massive sea lion landed on the beach and a load of smaller fur seals. It was lovely to see all these animals in their own habitat. We spent hours there, the guide was brilliant and allowed us to see so much stuff. We really enjoyed it even though it was freezing. Oh and got to see a load of sheep! On the way home we stopped off at an albotross colony but it was so boring and cold, and from the look of it we were the only people under the age of sixty there so we just decided to have a cuppa and a scone in the cafe instead. The next day we drove all day (again!) to Christchurch. We had a wander round in the evening. It did look like a very nice city, very English. It even has a River Avon where you can go punting and the square around the Cathedral is lovely. And thats it really not very interesting off back to Australia now.
