So first day of work was possibly the hardest, most boring and worst paid job I have ever had!!!! We were picking tomatoes into buckets, which all sounds fine. Except that they only pay $1.65 per bucket filled (equivalent of 1 pound) and in the severn hours that we were out there picking I filled 15 buckets....not really worth it!! The tomatoes very badly stained our hands and it took days of rubbing them with green tomatoes to get all the blackness off!
Following this horrific day at work we went and asked if we could possbly change jobs and so the next morning we were put to max machines. Which is picking tomatoes whilst sitting on a machine that carries you through the vines. And the best part about this job is that it is hourly paid!! The morning started well but then the rain came in and we had to stop early.
Due to the rain storms we have been having the max machines havent been working so have had the last four days off work! Sounds nice, however there is very little going on in Childers and it has been rather boring at times. We have been trying to keep ourselves entertained with anything we can find! We have a tamed bird called birdie bird that lives around our bunks and regularly comes and sits on my head during the evening. This afternoon I went into our bunk and found him in my bed!!!! he is very friendly and will eat out of your hand!
Ohh if you want to have a look at where we are staying it is www.sugarbowlchilders.com

Sally Hi Emma, Keep up with all the news. Robert and I are loving hearing off all your adventures. It is quite surreal seeing you in the photos with shorts on when it is soooo cold here. I can hear your lovely dog in the garden as I type this, I bet you miss her. We went to the theatre last night to see Matthew Bourne's modern version of Swan Lake with the male swans which was fab. Other than that all fairly quiet. Take care Sally & Robert x
Molly Yesterday i got shut out in the garden, Brian was hammering and Pap Pa was sitting by the WARM stove watching a film so no one could hear me barking, other than Sally who obviously thought i was having fun (not) outside, Really Emma i am desperate to come and join you, i am sure that i could help pick tomatoes, i could certainly think of a more creative name for your feathered friend than 'birdy bird'!! Lots of love and cuddles Mol. xxxxxxx
Arntee Elaine Sorry your work experience is not going as planned, hoped the rains have stopped and you are hard at it now. I had a look at where you are staying, are you in a cabin or a bunkhouse? At least you have the sunshine, although it is better here but not hot yet. Glad to haer you are making friends with the local wildlife tho birdie bird doesn't sound very imaginative or exotic. I bet he/she thinks it's great since you moved in. Keep up the news, it's great to hear what you are doing and that you are ok. I have found your photo's today. Those friends of Adrians, big aren't they, are they as scary as they look? The leech one...I don't think so !!! Look forward to seeing more. Take Care. Lots of Love Arntee Elaine, Uncle Trevor and the doggie peopleXXXXX
