Emma's RTW Adventure
I don't have a huge amount to say today really ("well that makes a change" I hear you cry!) but I couldn't resist putting pen to paper.
After an average day of teaching, I left the office to go for an early evening run. The weather has been blazing hot today so I nearly backed out, but stuck with it and went out for a nice forty minute jog.
Once I'd completed my usual loop, I decided to cool down with a twenty minute walk to the local supermarket. A surprising but popular place for Nanjingers to congregate of an evening.
I found myself watching about one hundred middle-aged Chinese ladies practicing Tai Ji and dance. I tapped my foot along to the beautifully soothing music, and before I knew it I was being dragged into the middle of the group to join in... And when I say 'dragged', I literally mean 'dragged'... No amount of protest from me was going to stop them having their laugh at my expense!
Well, anyone that knows me also knows that I have absolutely no sense of rythym and can't dance to save my life. Therefore, my pathetic attempts to keep in time with their movements caused much hilarity and pointing. However, I was determined not to give up, and, with some guidance, actually became marginally better.
Before long, a crowd larger than the hundred Tai ji women formed to watch me. Some were pointing, some were taking photographs, and all, without exception, were laughing at me!!!
Oh well, I'm going to return tomorrow for another attempt. I'm entertaining people if nothing else. Maybe I should give up teaching and become a clown!
