I was up at the crack of dawn to go for a run before our 8am breakfast this morning. It started raining again as soon as I got outside, but it was still sunny so there was a beautiful rainbow over the river. The rain soon cleared up and I enjoyed a great run, as far as city runs go.
Despite it being 7am on a Sunday morning, there were hundreds of people out running - some on their own and lots of groups too. Anyone not running or power walking was on their way to/from the gym. They also hold free yoga and fat burning sessions regularly for the public on the South Bank. Exercise is obviously the in thing here! I'm looking to going to Melbourne as that's supposedly the most sport and exercise obsessed city!
We were joined by seven new group members last night, having dropped two off in Brisbane. There are now 18 of us altogether - now more Germans and Canadians and another guy from London. It's quite nice to have new people and mix things up a bit! Everyone seems really nice and they are all between 23 and 36ish.
We got a train to West Maryborough this morning - it was a very nice and clean train, where we even checked in our baggage just for the 3 hour journey. We then took a shuttle bus the the ferry across to Fraser Island, where we're staying in Eco Wilderness Lodges in the island's main resort.
All the pictures of the island look beautiful, but it hasn't stopped raining since we arrived so we're all damp and miserable this evening! Fraser Island is World Heritage listed and stretches over 123km in length. It is the world's largest sand island and has over 100 fresh water lakes and several white sandy beaches. I am sincerely hoping that the weather picks up for our tour tomorrow so I get the chance to see all that!
