I headed to Ben Thanh market with a lovely girl named Elin to buy some last minute items on my final day in Vietnam. I can't believe how quickly the past few weeks have gone and that I'm already one country down on my 4 month trip; I'm going to be so sad to leave Vietnam.
I was super successful at the market and bought some souvenir items for good prices (after lots of bartering!). I got a fantastic Bahn Mi for lunch (Vietnamese sandwich) which was so great and I regret not eating more of those during my time in Vietnam. Maartje, Jeroen and I found a pool for the day - with a poolside bar - where we paid literally £1 for the entire day which was sooo relaxing and refreshing in the blazing Saigon heat. We swam around, drank cocktails and tanned all afternoon before heading back. We decided to walk a different route and ended up in a really local area of Ho Chi Minh which was nuts! Everything was cheap and the driving was crazy (close to India levels). It was so funny I decided to film it; we think it must have been Saigon rush hour.
After a shower I went out for a traditional Vietnamese massage, costing me £5 for the full hour and a full body massage. It was very intense and the strongest massage I had ever experience by far - the woman literally walked all over me...with her feet....and crawled all over me on hands and knees!!! I wasn't so sure what I had signed up to at the beginning but as it progressed it sort of became relaxing in a strange way and I could reeeeeally feel her working out the tension. At the end I felt GREAT and my skin was so smooth and oily; my limbs all limber!
We went for dinner at a really local side street restaurant thing which was cheap and delicious before heading out for some drinks. We went to a sky bar and got some cocktails which was exactly what I wanted on my last night in Vietnam - a frozen strawberry daiquiri with a view of the whole of Ho Chi Minh City. I did not feel ready to leave Vietnam whatsoever, and I really did have the most incredible time and was lucky enough to meet such wonderful people who I do hope I see again somewhere in the world one day.
