Saying goodbye to Dario was sad but I look forward to seeing him again in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). I got the world's worst bus from Nha Trang to Da Lat - I say it was the worst because the air conditioning was hot air (so essentially heating) so the bus was a sauna! At our first stop at a gas station I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to withstand this journey but when we got back on and found a window ohhh it was such a happy moment. We all sat at the back of the bus loving the breeze. Although the bus ride was of classic Vietnamese nature, with harsh breaking and corner taking and overtaking unnecessarily on mountain roads, the scenery the entire way was beautiful as we made our way up into the mountains. It kind of felt like you were looking over the whole of Vietnam with all its green.
As we approached Da Lat it did not look at all like we were still in Asia! It looked like we were up in the French Alps. I checked in at Wolfpack Hostel which was so so nice, maybe the nicest hostel I have stayed in so far with proper comfortable beds that have curtains, and a duvet!
I went to get some Vietnamese food and entered a restaurant where they spoke no English and the menu was in Vietnamese - mimed my way into getting a vegetarian fried rice and after being served a literal platter of rice decided I would take it home and eat the rest later. So I mimed my way into a takeaway too! I went back to the hostel and chatted for a little while to some of the people staying there, and then went for the best nap. I slept for like 3/4 hours! Travelling is so exhausting.
Dinner at this hostel is the cutest thing. It's a family run hostel and they make a huge sharing meal, so you all sit on cushions on the floor in a circle and help yourself to as much of the Vietnamese dishes they have cooked as you like. The owners are so lovely and kind. After dinner I had already decided I was going to have an early night as I was going canyoning the next day (petrified but excited). I read some of my book, learnt some Spanish, and caught up with some home friends and some of the people I had met travelling before having a wonderful nights sleep.
