After having my free breakfast (perfectly boiled dippy eggs!) I headed to the beach with Hayley for a day of relaxing and working on the tan. Senggigi beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, it goes on for miles and all you can see is endless ocean in the distance. The water is the clearest I have experienced - I was standing shoulder deep in the sea and could literally see my toes and every individual grain of sand they stood on through the crystal clear water.
Throughout the morning we walked the entire stretch of beach, around the cliffs and rocks and along the sand before going for lunch at a really really nice sea view restaurant which played reggae music!
We rented snorkels for the afternoon and again found ourselves a fabulous spot on the empty beach to sunbathe and snorkel and soak up the rays; it was such a beautiful day too! It's funny watching Indonesian oriole fishing as it's such a bizarre technique - they stand basically shoulder deep in the sea with their fishing rods instead of using boats or nets. As there are not many tourists here at the minute it was relaxing watching them wade out into sea with their rods, a fair few of them, catching what I presume is a meal for their families.
We went to look around the Art Market early evening, which was basically a market of souvenirs, clothes, jewellery and lots of cool stuff. I felt really bad for the poor Indonesian guys working there as I sat on the floor and had a long chat with a few of them - the high season only lasts from June- August so three months of pretty good business and the rest of the year is terrible. One guy tailor made me a couple of bracelets and let me chose all the components! They were very sweet. I enjoyed my Indonesian dinner of Gado-Gado as I hadn't had it in a while and forgot how good it was! Gado-Gado is boiled vegetables and egg in the most delicious thick peanut sauce; I cannot wait to make it at home.
