I had a wonderful lazy morning and then caught a flight from Denpassar to Labuan Bajo in Flores on the teensiest little aeroplane that held only 40 passengers - with most of those passengers having to duck to walk down the isle (but not me because I'm Asian sized).
The landing of the plane provided one of the most incredible views I have ever seen, let alone it being from a window. I was so glad to have been allocated the window seat because I can honestly say I have never seen anything like that before. The water was so clear that you could see the sea floor, surrounding hundreds of islands with green rolling mountains that just didn't look real at all. The water was all different shades of brilliant blue and so many islands so close together - it looked like something out of a movie, like a set that had been made to look that beautiful and untouched. My first impression of Flores: Wow.
I met a lovely girl in the airport called Emily from Exeter; we got chatting and headed towards the city together. I checked into the dorm at Flores Diving Centre having already decided I was going to be doing lots of diving whilst on this island as it is supposed to be unbelievable, and with most the dive sites belonging to the Komodo National Park they are in perfect condition. I met some lovely people in the dive school right away, making me even more excited (if that was possible) for the boat the following day.
I went for dinner with Emily at a really fancy Italian place and had the most delicious homely lasagne! It was exactly what I wanted after suffering from a bit of Bali belly the past week or so. This made my tummy very happy, and ready for the long day of diving to come.
(It must be mentioned that after a whole week of hunting I finally found some tampons - they just don't exist in Indonesia - and I didn't even have to mime/act out a tampon this time! Success.)
