We attempted to follow a trail through the jungle out the back of our hostel, however it was so unbelievably hot and humid and ridiculously muddy that we did not last long whatsoever. We actually gave up embarrassingly early on but what we did see was lusciously green.
We got a water taxi back into Bocas town (the super speedy one which almost broke down on the way this time) and then waited for our Caribe shuttle to the Panama/Costa Rica border to collect us. The journey didn't actually take too long and after a few hours I was in Costa Rica, the penultimate country of my trip.
We decided to visit Puerto Viejo, a hippy Jamaican influenced Rasta town on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, and I liked it as soon as we arrived. It felt extremely Caribbean which I loved as it was so laid back and friendly. We checked in at our hostel Rocking J's - the biggest hostel I have ever seen although unfortunately completely empty because of low season. You have the option of hammock, tent or bed for the night so we originally paid for two hammocks and later upgraded to tents as the hostel was so dead. I feel like that hostel would be so incredibly fun in the high season when it was full.
We went for a wander around and both had a "coco loco" in happy hour, but the town was so quiet that we knew it was going to be a low key evening. Ridiculously we both fell asleep in our tents before 8pm! Travelling really is tiring.
