We set off early for a day of being tourists and doing lots of sightseeing. Firstly we did our own city walk heading into Centro Rio, passing loads of churches, the Arcos and the one cathedral shaped like a volcano which looked like space mountain from the outside and not like a religious building whatsoever! After a few hours of wandering around central Rio we walked up to Santa Teresa, via the famous Escardaria Selaron (Selaron Steps) which is a stairway consisting of tiled and painted stairs all extremely colourful. The walk up to Santa Teresa was beautiful and he views of Rio really are astounding.
The city has so many skyscraper blocks and buildings yet is also really mountainous with shear cliffs in every direction, and also beaches and the ocean as it is on the coast. We went to the Parque das Ruinas, an old mansion that now lies in ruins but the location of which is incredible with panoramic views over Rio. After wandering around there for a while and imagining what it must have been like to live there with such views we headed back down to Lapa.
After some lunch we returned to our hostel for a nap and then got ready for a night out in Rio! Our hostel was based in a really great area, Lapa being the nightlife hub of this region of Rio. The hostel was great and Filippe, a guy who worked there, made it all the better being friendly and funny - making sure everyone was having a good time. We spoke to tons of people and drank maybe too many Caipirinhas, but the night was definitely interesting and mainly it was just so much fun to be out with Liv again!
