We left for a 5 hour tour on horseback to see the stunning canyons of Tupiza. It genuinely felt like we were in an America Western, the wild Wild West, as we rode through absolutely spectacular surroundings of never ending canyons with cacti! I had never been on a horse before so was a little nervous to begin with (despite having ridden camels and elephants) but I soon got used to it and couldn't stop smiling with my cowboy sombrero on, riding in the sunshine through what would definitely say was one of the most beautiful places I'd ever been. It amazes me how much natural beauty there is on the earth, and it's baffling to try and determine how so.
My horse kept tripping up and so Liv said it was the horse version of me which was very funny. I cannot even begin to describe the views from the horse ride; the scenery was just so immense and breathtaking. It looked like a movie set! The horses actually took us down the side of the canyon on winding dirt paths, over rocks and sand so that we eventually reached the bottom; it was unbelievable.
5 hours was a pretty long time for a horse ride, therefore we returned to the town once we had finished ready for an easy night. Luckily, we happened to be in Tupiza for the independent day parades so the small streets were filled with locals, adults and children, and loads of marching bands! We stood and watched these for a while before having some dinner, and I started to feel excited about the next few days as we had booked into a three day tour to Uyuni to see the salt flats. Eeek!
