I arrived here on Sunday afternoon after a bus ride from Hua Hin to Chumphon, and then a ferry over to the island. I hadn't booked anywhere to stay so I wasn't sure what to do once I got off the ferry. There were loads of touts at the port trying to get people to do their diving courses, as a lot of people come here to learn to scuba dive. I asked one of the touts about getting to a beach called June Juea down on the south coast, as I'd had it recommended to me by a guy at the WFFT centre. He showed me where the long tail taxi boats were, so I jumped in that and set off. Getting a boat is the only way to get to this beach, unless you take a taxi to Chalok Baan Kao, the nearest town, and endure quite a walk uphill with your backpack.
I arrived at Sunset bungalows, which are right on the beach, and was shown my room. It's very basic, just a wooden hut with a balcony, bed, mosquito net and a bathroom with cold water. It overlooked the sea though, and was only a stones throw from the beach - so it was good enough for me.
I like it that it's really secluded and quiet, but you can walk to town if you want shops or the internet. I've just been spending my days relaxing with my book, and I'm finally starting to get a tan after 7 weeks of being away. The sea is crystal clear, and the sunsets are amazing! The food here is good too - I keep having to restrain myself from ordering too much because it's all so nice!
I'm leaving here for Ko Phangan tomorrow morning. I doubt it will be as quiet over there, but after nearly a week it'll be nice to be somewhere a bit more lively.
