G'day Guys!!We caught a connecting bus out of Denham at 4:30am on Monday morning, which got us to the main highway at 6:15am, we boarded the greyhound for a few hours, and then got another connecting bus which took us out west to Kalbarri.Kalbarri is situated at the mouth of the Murchison River, and is surrounded by National Park. So we decided to book a national park discovery tour for the next day, and then spent the rest of Monday having a look around the tiny town of Kalbarri, and walking along its gorgeous beaches.Tuesday, Paul, our tour guide collected us, and after collecting 2 German girls, and 2 guys - Alan from Dublin, and Joe from Glasgow, we left the town, and headed into Kalbarri National Park. Our first stop was at a lookout over part of the Murchison River. We took a walk to the cliffs edge, which gave us a great vantage point out over the national park, and the nearly dry Murchison River. We jumped back onto the bus and headed to The Loop, this is an area of the national park which gets its name from the course of the Murchison River, as it bends back around nearly meeting itself - thus forming a loop. We left the bus and had a half km walk to Natures Window. Nature's Window is a natural rock arch that frames the upstream view of the Murchison River. We got some great photos and stood taking in the views, before returning to the bus and heading approximately 15km to Z-Bend Gorge. We walked to a lookout for views over the Murchison and up into the gorge. We clambered down, through some tight spots, to a small beach, by the riverside (this took almost half an hour). This is a point where almost everyone turns back, but not our tour, no, we carried on. We headed along the river's edge, and jumped across rocks to the other side. We balanced along ledges that lifted us high above the river, and then climbed back down rocks. Over an hour and a half later, we arrived at Placid Pool. We stopped for lunch, and a well deserved rest. So we sat in the shade taking in the views of this brilliant gorge. We began to head back, taking time to look at aboriginal markings, fossilized tracks of ancient scorpion-like creatures, and patterns in the sandstone that looked like galaxies. Tired, sweating and exhausted, we eventually made it back to the bus. We stopped to look at the smoke coming from some back burning being carried out in the park, and then returned to Kalbarri. We showered, packed, and had dinner, and then set off on a 15minute walk to the caravan park where Alan and Joe were staying. What was planned to be a few beers, turned into a heavy night's drinking, and we finally made it back to the hostel shortly after 1am, setting our alarm clock for 5:30am.Wednesday, feeling rather queasy, we dragged ourselves out of bed, and began our 11hour bus journey to PERTH!!Love you all loads,Emma and Leexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
