G'day Guys!!
We arrived in Port Macquarie at 10pm, after a 2 hour bus journey from Forster. We were picked up in a mini bus and after a quick tour of the town we were taken to the hostel. At this hostel the double rooms are up the road in a separate building, this meant we stayed in a 4 bedroom appartment, very nice.
Saturday, we awoke to a very sunny Port Macquarie, we decided to take a costal walk which led us from the town across a few beaches and via a couple of cliff top lookouts to Flynn's Beach. From here we headed inland to the koala hospital. The koala hospital, founded in 1973, is run by local volunteers, it has about 300 admissions of sick or injured koalas each year. The majority of these koalas are victims of bushfires or road traffic accidents. The koala hospital has a brilliant rehabillitation programme, but for those unfortunate ones that cannot be released there is a permanent happy home at the hospital.
Next to the hospital is Roto House, built in 1890 (at the cost of 667pounds), the house is one of the town's few remaining 19th century buildings. We walked through the house and had a quick look at the artifacts inside.
Sunday, another very sunny morning. By a stroke of luck we ran into John, the camel ride pick-up man, who drove us to lighthouse beach where the camels were waiting. We were given helmets & assigned camels, Emma got Sandy - the smallest camel, and Lee got Bimbo - so he could say "he'd been humped by a Bimbo on lighthouse beach, whilst his girlfriend looked on from behind" - ha ha. We had a very enjoyable ride along the beach whilst being told numerous facts about camels, including; they are the fastest drinking animal on the planet - drinking 110litres in 3-5 minutes & they can go for 90 days without a drink - what an animal. After our camel ride we took some time to chill out & relax on Town Beach.
Monday morning we spent looking around the town & harbour before catching our bus to Coffs Harbour!!
Love Emma and Lee
