Hannah again. I think we both actually got a really good night´s sleep last night. I know that I slept a good ten hours at least! We were up just before 8 and had kinda gross hot cakes and very watery coffee for breakfast.
We got to Frida Kahlo´s blue house for around 10 and it was so so good. I find the story of her life really moving and nearly had to cry looking at everything. Her art is beautiful... anyone who doesn´t know it, check it out.
We grabbed a coffee at the museum and then went to see the canals at Xochomilco. It took us nearly an hour in total to get there which was a b****. By the time we arrived it was crazy hot. One guide tried to rip us off but then we managed to get a ride for half the price of what he had offered (and also less than what the guidebook quoted!) We did, however, get ripped off on food (enchiladas and mole). At least the portions were big and it tasted really goof. The atmosphere on the boats was awesome and we were sat in the shade so it was nice and cool too. Lots of music and drunk mexicans. Think punting in Oxford but waaaaay less posh and more chilled out, with better food, drink, mariachis and brighter colours.
As it´s our last day in Mexico city it feels appropriate to make a general note. It´s extremely interesting and the sites and museums are great, but we agree that it will be a relief to leave. There is something very manic about it. You can´t really just sit in a bar or cafe and chill out, making non-site time a little dull. You´re pretty much limited to the hostel, which, although nice, doesn´t exactly offer much in the way of entertainment. Generally though it was definitely worth a visit.
