So there's quite a lot to add now as we haven't updated this for a few days!
On Friday, we went over to the Grand Palace, thinking it was free to get in. It turned out to be about £10 per person so we decided not to bother as neither of us were overly fussed on going inside - we've seen a lot of temples and grand buildings now! Instead, we visited Wat Po which was just around the corner. This turned out to be where the reclining Buddha is so we had quite a good look round. Neither of us could believe how big the Buddha statue actually is...it's HUGE!! That evening, we went out for dinner and had a wander round and Sam started looking in the tattoo shops at their designs. In the last shop we went to, we got talking to the guy...one thing led to another and when we left the shop, a deposit had been left and an appointment made for later that night for Sam to get a tattoo!!
On Saturday, (after waking up in Bangkok with a tiger tattooed on Sams arm!) we visited Chatuchack Weekend Market. On the way there, the heavens opened and the rain poured down! When we were almost at the market, we got stuck in a lot of traffic so decided to get off the bus early and walk the rest of the way. As we got closer, we realised that the cause of all the traffic was a big flood in the middle of the road! After wading through the huge puddles and almost losing my shoe, we made it into the market! We had a nice few hours there, looking at all the stalls. Apparently the market covers about 27 acres so you can imagine how big it was. That evening we both had a couple of treatments in one of the many salons, followed by probably the best dinner we've had in Thailand so far!
Sunday was our last day in Bangkok. We met our friends, Frances and Barry and began the long journey to Koh Phangan. It took around 12 hours on a sleeper train (with just a fan to keep cool), an hour and a half wait for a bus, a 1 hour 20 min bus journey, quick shuttle journey, and finally a two our ferry ride to reach the island! (The location of this post says Ko Samui as it won't find Phangan!) After a little bit of walking, we checked into a very nice beach bungalow resort. We did have to spend the night in a slightly less nice place, but it was worth it! This place is gorgeous and the infinity pool is the icing on the cake! For the rest of Monday, we had a look round the area and went down to Haad Rin beach where we all got a foot massage. (I'm still struggling to see why punching your feet and clicking your toes is necessary but hey!)
Yesterday (Tuesday) was quite a chilled day. We spent most of it round the pool but in the evening we went back to Haad Rin beach for dinner. Frances and I had been talking about tattoos most of the day, looking up designs etc. so when we got to Haad Rin, we spoke to some people in the tattoo shop...and, like with Sams tattoo...things escalated quickly and we both came out with a tattoo! We then had a walk on the beach to see what was going on in the night time and there was everything from neon posters and lights to a big skipping rope on fire! Safe to say, we kept well clear from that!
Today has again, been quite a chilled day. We're going to the jungle experience later but won't have too much of a heavy night as we've booked to go on a day trip tomorrow to Ang Thong. This is a cluster of lots of islands with amazing beaches and we get to go kayaking and snorkelling, so we all want to be in ship shape for that!
We shall update again in a couple of days when our time in Koh Phangan comes to an end and we move on to the next island!
