We're still quite jet lagged and the weather has been rubbish, so all in all, our first impressions haven't been good.
On Wednesday, we went out for a walk around the city to the harbour, then along the Avenue of Stars followed by the Hong Kong Museum of Art and Hong Kong Museum of Space. For a country with such a rich culture and being so technologically advanced, we were very underwhelmed.
We decided to head out to Lantau Island on Thursday to see the Big Buddha. Annoyingly, the cable cars are closed for refurbishment so we had to get the bus. This was quite disappointing as there are supposed to be some lovely views from the cars.
With the rain pouring, we made our way to the Big Buddha statue, which is quite impressive, however when you get up to it and find out that it was only built in 1992, it's a bit of an anti climax! We've been around longer than he has!
As we said, the weather for the first two days was terrible and we ended up buying 3 umbrellas! Didn't think we'd come half way round the world and be spending all our money on that!
Luckily the weather was better today though so this has cheered us up. We went to the Hong Kong Science Museum and Hong Kong History Museum. Unfortunately again, we were quite underwhelmed by both! With exhibits in the Science Museum telling you the dangers of putting your fingers in a plug socket and handling electrical items with wet hands isn't quite what we had in mind! Neither were the replicas of old bones, pottery and stones in the history museum!!
Earlier this evening we visited the night market which was quite good. There's a lot of old tat, but also some good stalls for fake designer bags and purses! We came back with a schmulberry purse and portable iPhone charger.
Tomorrow we are going to the zoo, so bearing in mind what the museums have been like, we shall see how this compares to the likes of the zoos back in blighty...

L.O.G Nanny Kathleen Hi Emma &Sam I have been wondering what you have been up too. If you have been a little disappointed with Hong Kong your trip can only get better as and when you move on. Also when everyone gets in touch through Offexploring it's always a comfort and exciting to see who checks in each day! As well as L.O.G. Traveling along with you both. Once your Malaria tablets arrive you may be able to move on to your next destination . Xx
