Well, I know I haven´t updated this in a while, and quite a lot has happened!
Last weekend we went to La Fortuna, the town at the base of Arenal Volcano, the 3rd most active volcano in the world. We didn´t see a thing! We didn´t even see the top of the volcano, the cloud was too low! But it was still nice to get away for a few days, even if it did rain pretty much non-stop! Did a horse-riding trek and went to Baldi Hot Springs, which was nice.
Then we headed to Guápiles for our two weeks of volunteering. Or so we thought. After being left stranded in a restaurant in the middle of nowhere for 7 hours, we were finally picked up by a family not so keen on really talking to us. They´ve warmed up a little bit, but they still don´t seem thrilled to have us. The volunteering..well... we were taken to the Red Cross ambulance station, but there was nothing for us to do there and...well, to cut a long story short, we spent a week sitting on our beds twiddling our thumbs, always with the promise of ´tomorrow´which was never fulfilled.
So on Friday we were fed up and decided to go away for the weekend to refresh ourselves. So we jumped on a bus to Limón and from there another to Puerto Viejo, one of the main locations on the Carribean coast. Stayed in a gorgeous little bungalow for two days in Puerto Viejo and it was gorgeous. Beaches lined with palm trees and a cute little township, and it was hot and sunny and so nice!! On Saturday we went on a tour that took us on a walk through Cahuita National Park along the coast, then snorkelling over the coral reefs, which was amazing. I´d never snorkelled before and I´m really glad I did it, I saw amazing reef structures and all kinds of fish.
Yesterday we came back here to Guápiles and today we went to the next promise - a private clinic. Only to sit in a waiting room for about an hour and then be made to put some files in alphabetical order. I know it probably sounds picky, but after everything we´ve put up with we´ve just had enough of all this! So we´re probably going to buggar off and find somewhere nice to stay for a few days until we finally get to go home - yay!
Oh yeah, that´s the other thing, I´ve decided to come home early. I know everyone probably thinks I´m crazy but I understand my reasons and I´m really happy with my decision. I will spend xmas with my family in Wellington and then spend the summer with Kris in Geraldine working. I can´t wait to be home and am counting down the seconds until I can jump on that plane and finally be home again!! I leave Costa Rica on Saturday and spend a night in LA, before getting an AirNZ flight home from LA on Sunday the 17th December, arriving in Wellington at 8am on Tuesday the 19th. Yay!!! Heading down to Christchurch on the 28th. I can´t wait to be home!!
