Arrived in Cambodia yesterday at 9.30 p.m after getting a bus at 7am! from bangkok. We had to be dropped at the border and then we walked over it...v v scary! Its been flooded here so it was just pure mud everywhere. we were told to wait at the bus station for our next bus which we were told may be a 2 hr wait, so sat in a skanky bus station surrounded by pervy men wasnt the best and with no accomadation booked for Siem Reap when we arrived there was also a scary prospect as our arrival time was getting later and later. Out of pure cahnce there were 2 spaniards waiting for the same bus that had a room at the Prince Mekong Villa where we wanted to book. My phone wouldnt work with Cambodian numbers but they told us to stick with them. After a few hrs the bus arrived and id got in contact with dad who had managed to book us 2 rooms at the villa (from uk). Lovely place the manager Eric really welcomed us and we were feeling more positive, then were told we had to rise at 4am to have brekkie then use our free bikes to get to Angor Wat to see the sunrise. Alas usd being us did not make it in time and got very lost!! then my pedal fell off and we were so far away so i had to ride spazzy from then on!! We saw Angkor Thom and the jungle temples where tombraider was filmed, that was really amazing! then we had the 6mile bike ride make on the trashy bikes, the saddle reeeally killed our bums and by this time it was noon so it was boiling! We are in Siem Reap for 2 more nights, going to Angkor Wat tomorrow and the floating villages and then onto Battenbang and Phohn Phen after that. Was no doubt a VERY big culture shock to begin with!
