We weren't very prepared for the mini bus to take us to Phnom Penh from Siem reap! Very hungover and a very bumpy ride.
When we got to Phnom Penh we weren't overly impressed, it was busier and dirtier than Siem reap. But very much looking forward to seeing the killing fields and s-21 prison the next day (Monday).
So Sunday night we had an early one. Our hostel beds were very uncomfy as they were just mattresses on the floor! Monday we woke up around 9 to get a tuk tuk to the killing fields then onto s-21 prison. The drive was so dusty that our tuk tuk driver bought us masks to put on!
At the killing fields they give you an audio set so it takes you through and explains to you everything at each stop. Ironically, it was a very serene and peaceful setting. On the audio set it has a survivor of the killing fields talking you through, it was awful hearing everything that happened there and it reminded me of a smaller scale of the holocaust. At the end of the tour here is a memorial which has been built which holds 17 levels of bones and clothes which they have recovered from the site!
Next stop was s-21 prison were they tortured people before taking them to the killing fields. A very freaky place, they also have pictures on the walls where they found the last people who were killed there!
Next stop, Vietnam!
